How to Knit a Hat for a Baby

Your little cherub will look good enough to eat when wearing this delicious, freshly baked cupcake, complete with a cherry on the top. We've chosen to decorate our cake with classic strawberry-flavored pink frosting, but you could use any color you fancy—such as lemon, pistachio, or lavender or grape—or perhaps embellish the top with sprinkles made from tiny beads or sequins. It's also very easy to imitate colorful chocolate beans by knitting in a few bobbles and using small scraps of yarn left over from other projects.

You Will Need:

Pair of size 3 (3.25 mm) needles
Pair of size 6 (4 mm) needles
1 (1: 1) 2 oz (50 g) ball light worsted knitting yarn in color A (white)
1 (1: 1) 2 oz (50 g) ball light worsted knitting yarn in color B (blue)
1 (1: 1) 2 oz (50 g) ball light worsted knitting yarn in color C (brown)
1 (1: 1) 2 oz (50 g) ball light worsted knitting yarn in color D (pink)
Oddment of light worsted knitting yarn in color E (red)
Tape measure
Stitch holder
Bodkin

Sewing Together:
Using matching yarn and a bodkin, stitch the hat seam and the rib seam, then weave in all tails neatly on the reverse. Finally, sew the cherry securely to the top of the cupcake.
